Project Description

The Electric Giraffe is a life sized robotic giraffe.   Its walking mechanism is modeled after a walking giraffe toy. It operates all 4 legs at the same time from a single geared motor source.

Lindsay built the Electric Giraffe as a Burning Man project. It towers at 17 feet tall when its neck is raised. The main frame where people can ride is 8 feet off the ground.

The Electric Giraffe, named Rave Raffe, has ears that move and petting sensors mounted on its nose and eyebrows. The Giraffe has a Make Controller mounted onto its forehead, which takes the sensor input and allows the giraffe to respond to this by speaking or blinking its LED eyes.
