Frequently asked questions about placing orders with MakingThings
Do I have to use PayPal?
No. All our online orders are processed through PayPal, but you don't need a PayPal account (although you can use yours if you have one). PayPal accepts all major credit cards - MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
Where's My Order?
UPS sends an email with tracking information once your order is shipped and picked up. However, sometimes this email can look like spam or you might otherwise overlook it. If you have questions about the status of your order, please contact sales@makingthings.com.
Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes. If you're with an institution that needs to submit a purchase order, please contact sales@makingthings.com.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes, we offer a quantity discount and a student discount.
For quantities of 10 or greater per item, we offer a 5% discount. Please mention this discount when you place your order. Questions can be directed to sales@makingthings.com.
If you are a student, we offer a 10% discount on both the Make Controller Kit and Make Controller Board. To be approved for this discount, please fax a copy of your current student identification card or other proof of current enrollment to (415) 255-9513, or e-mail a scanned copy to sales@makingthings.com. Make sure to also include:
- a complete list of items you would like to order
- your shipping address and shipping preference (overnight, 2nd Day or Ground)
Please note that this discount does not apply to other items in the store.
Do you offer repairs?
Yes. We offer a free diagnostic of any MakingThings products you're having trouble with. If it turns out that the problem is the result of a manufacturing flaw, we will replace your product(s) free of charge within 90 days of the date of purchase.
If your product has been damaged in the course of normal use, we offer repair services at the rate of $50/hour. We will, of course, quote how many hours we expect it to take before actually doing the repairs.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship with UPS and can send orders anywhere they deliver.
Why is your international shipping so expensive?
Unfortunately, because we're such a small company, UPS doesn't offer us the greatest rates. This is just the way it is. However, there is another option - international customers can place orders for the Make Controller Kit through Make Magazine. Make can offer much better international rates than we can, so it's definitely worth a look. We're currently looking into shipping with the US Postal Service as well - we hope this will allow us to offer better shipping rates, especially internationally.
