Digital Potentiometer AD5220

I'm trying to figure out how to get the digi pot from my basic stamp kit ( AD5220 ) to work with the make controller. I've got it all wired up (correctly, as far as i can tell), my trouble comes when trying to figure out what the "PULSOUT" command in basic does. I've tried pwmout without much success, but that was as far as I could get on my own. Any ideas?
