Get Help
This How-to is intended for:
Any audience.
There are several options to ask questions and get help for the Make Controller.
Documentation
There's lots of documentation for the Make Controller - sometimes it can be hard to sift through it all, but chances are there's an answer for your question there somewhere. This is the best place to start looking for answers.
Forum
Post your questions in the forum. MakingThings monitors the forum, and so do many other Make Controller users. Please be sure to search the forum before posting your question to make sure you're not asking one that's already been answered. If you see a question you know the answer to, please chime in!
IRC Chat
Join us in #makingthings on irc.freenode.net. If you've never used IRC, check out http://www.mibbit.com which lets you chat from your browser - nothing extra to install. Consider hanging around after your questions has been answered - maybe you'll be able to help the next person!
Asking Questions
In either IRC or the forum, be as specific as possible when asking questions. Be sure to include:
- information about the version of the software you're using
- which platform you're on (OS X, Windows, Linux, etc).
- what you expect to happen
- what you actually observe happening
- ideally include steps to reproduce your problem. If we can't reproduce your problem, then it's very difficult to understand what's wrong and solve it.
If you're posting any code you've been working on, please don't post it directly in the forum or in the chatroom as it's very difficult to read when it's unformatted. Instead, go to a pastebin site (like http://pastie.org), paste your code there and then post the URL of your paste (just copy the address in your browser). This makes it much easier for people to read your code, and increases the chances of getting a helpful response.
Answering Questions
And of course, if you have some help to give we love that too. In our documentation section, you can add your own how-tos, tutorials and FAQs. These can be large or small - anything that you have found helpful is likely to help somebody else too.
